레퀴엠 Requiem for a Dream 2000년 미국 110분

“이것이 바로 ‘중독’이다.” <레퀴엠>은 무언가에 사로잡힌 인간의 육체와 영혼을 우리 눈앞에 극접사로 들이민다. 미망인 사라는 TV쇼에 중독돼 있고 아들 해리는 두 친구와 함께 마약에 탐닉한다. 마약을 구하려는 몸부림은 세 젊은이를 파괴하고, 살을 빼던 사라는 다이어트 약의 노예가 된다. 하지만 <레퀴엠>의 관객은 아마 마약보다 영화의 마술에 홀리게 될 지도 모른다. 감독은 화면 분할과 점프 컷 등 현란한 기교를 능란히 구사해 마음의 지옥을 스크린에 불러냈다.

“Here’s what you call addiction!.” , the opening movie at Pifan, shows us the state of the human body and soul arrested. A lonely widow in New York called Sara is addicted to TV shows, while her son Harry is addicted to drugs with his friend Tyron and girlfriend Marion. Their constant search for drugs destroys them from inside. Sara who strives to lose weight in order to appear on a TV show becomes a slave of diet pills. The audience of the film,however,is sure to be mesmerized by the movie’s captivating charm rather than by drug. The director Aronofsky brings a hell existing in human mind to screen with his brilliant cinematic skills such as a split screen and jump cuts.
