[Exclusive] DP Chung Chung-hoon on board for Star Wars series

Chung attached for Disney+ series Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi

Director of Photography Chung Chung-hoon will be responsible for the cinematography of the new Star Wars series Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi, which will debut on Disney+. This will mark the first time a Korean cinematographer is working on the Star Wars franchise. At the helm will be Deborah Chow, who directed some episodes of The Mandalorian. Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi will be a prequel revolving around the titular mentor of Anakin Skywalker. Ewan McGregor, who played the character in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, will reprise his role as the Jedi, and Hayden Christensen is set to return as Darth Vader.

A long-time collaborator of Park Chan-wook who did the cinematography for the director’s Oldboy (2003), Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (2005), I’m a Cyborg, but That’s OK (2006), Thirst (2008), Stalker (2013) and The Handmaiden (2016), Chung Chung-hoon also filmed the Korean thrillers The Unjust (2010) and New World (2012) before moving to Hollywood with Me, Earl and the Dying Girl (2015), Boulevard (2015), It (2017), Hotel Artemis (2018), The Current War (2018) and Zombieland: Double Tap (2019). His latest works, Edgar Wright's Last Night in Soho is scheduled to be released this year, while Rubin Fleischer's Uncharted, which completed production at the end of last year, is currently in post-production.
