열대야를 식힐 판타스틱한 영화군단의 상륙작전. 제5회 부천판타스틱 국제영화제가 7월12일 저녁 7시 부천 시민회관에서 그 시작을 알렸다. 게스트 중 가장 주목을 끈 인물은 ‘깜짝 스트리킹쇼’를 벌인 <네이키드 어게인>의 두 형제 감독 마르텐, 토르켈 너트슨. 이들은 올해 칸영화제에서도 누드와 스트리킹으로 영화를 홍보해 화제를 모았었다. 홍은철, 배유정의 사회로 진행된 개막식에는 원혜영 부천시장의 개막선언과 임창렬 경기도지사의 축하사, 자우림의 김윤아와 부천필 하모닉 오케스트라의 축하 무대가 이어졌다.

다소 딱딱했던 개막식장의 분위기를 판타스틱(?)하게 뒤집은 인물은 엽기영화의 대부 로이드 카우프만 감독. 장편 심사위원으로 참석한 그는 <시민톡시: 톡식 어벤져Ⅳ>의 주인공인 고무마스크맨 ‘톡시’와 함께 무대에 올라 “심사위원장인 후루하타 야스오 감독은 지금 열심히 교과서를 수정하고 계신가 보다”며 그의 부재와 한일관계을 빗댄 뼈있는 농담을 던지는듯 하더니 “심사위원으로서는 정말 열심히 영화를 볼 것이고, 개인적으로는 폐스티발 레이디와 많은 시간을 나누겠습니다”라는 실없는 농담으로 개막식장에 웃음을 선사했다. 개막식에는 유현목, 임권택 감독부터 이장호, 이미례 감독 김대승, 민동현 감독에 이르는 한국영화의 3세대들이 모두 함께 자리를 빛내주었고 개막작 <레퀴엠>의 대런 아로노프스키 감독은 불참에 대한 사과와 함께 “불고기와 비빔밥을 먹지못해 아쉽다”는 귀여운 영상 메시지를 부천 관객들에게 보내왔다.

A Shocking Scene at Puchon

The opening ceremony was hosted by Hong Eun Chul and Bae Yu Jung, followed by Puchon's mayor Won Hye Young's opening statement, and the provincial governor, Lim Chang Ryul's welcoming stage. Lloyd Kaufman, the master of bizarre movies was. "fantastically" succ-eeded in overturning the strict atmo-sphere at the ceremony. As a feature film jury, Kaufman went on stage and threw a rather sarcastic joke, "Director Huruhata Yasuo must be busy revising the Japanese history textbooks at home", speaking for his absence by depicting Korea-Japan relations with a twist, but quickly changed the tone by adding a harmless joke: "I'm going to do my job sincerely viewing the movies thoroughly and I'd like to share some personal time with the festival lady.' The director of the opening film 's Darren Aronofsky apolo- gized through a videotaped message for not being able to come to the festival. He cutely added that "I am sorry that I miss the chance to have Bulgoki and Bibimbab."
