형제는 유쾌했다. 스웨덴에서 날아와 부천 관객들 앞에서 과감히 바지 지퍼를 내린 이들은 <네이키드 어게인>이라는 재기발랄한 영화를 가장 저렴하게 그러나 가장 효과적으로 홍보했다. TV프로듀서인 아버지 덕에 자연스럽게 영상을 접하고 광고제작 등의 일을 거친 5살 터울의 형제는 형인 토르켈이 만든 동명의 단편영화를 장편으로 만들자는데 의기투합해 데뷔작 <네이키드 어게인>을 세상에 벗겨보였다. 사진촬영을 위해 중요부분만을 칸영화제 기념 우산만으로 가린 이들의 아슬아슬한 모습은 차마 혼자보기 아까운 장면이었다.
오프닝 타이틀을 보면 ‘이 영화는 잉마르 베리만의 영화가 아닙니다, 레나 앙드레가 출연하지도 않습니다…’같은 말이 뜬다. 우리는 잉마르 베리만을 존경하지만 이건 전적으로 다른 영화라는 것을 시작부터 알려주고 싶었다. 그렇게 심각하지도, 무겁지도 않은 코미디라는 걸. 물론 우리 영화에 레나 앙드레(잉마르 베리만 영화에 출연한 스웨덴 여배우)가 나올 수는 있겠지만 이런 영화를 잉마르 베리만이 만들 수는 없을 꺼다. 아! 하나 자랑할 게 있다. 어릴 때 <가을 소나타>를 찍던 잉그리드 버그만이 나에게 쿠키를 주었다.
결혼을 앞둔 남자의 두려움을 표현하고 싶었나? 여자들은 결혼 생활 자체에 대한 두려움이 있지만 남자들은 결혼을 하면서 잃게 되는 것들에 대한 공포가 있다. 결국 70번이나 반복되는 결혼 전날을 통해 소년에서 진짜 남자가 되는 과정을 그리고 싶었다.
형제가 함께 작업하는데 좋은 점과 나쁜 점이 있을 것같다. 우리에겐 오로지 좋은 점 뿐이다. 우린 얼굴은 많이 안 닮았지만 내면은 많이 닮았다. 물론 의견 충돌이나 싸울 때도 있지만 채 2분을 넘기지 못한다. 가는 길이 다를 지라도 결국 가고자 하는 방향은 같기 때문이다. 감독은 외로운 직업이라는 말을 하는데 우리는 함께 하기 때문에 외롭지 않다.
차기 프로젝트가 있나 두개의 프로젝트가 있다. 하나는 마르텐이 미국에서 8월 부터 찍기로 되어있는 것인데 아마도 연기할 것같다. 스웨덴에서 공동으로 찍을 두번째 작품 때문이다. <사랑의 거짓말>(Lie to love)이란 제목인데 가출한 부인을 둔 한 남자가, 자살하려고 지붕에서 떨어진 여자를 받아내는데 그 여자는 기억상실증에 걸린다. 결국 두 사람이 사랑에 빠지려는 찰나 집 나간 부인이 돌아온다. 또 갑자기 여자의 기억이 돌아오고… 뭐, 그렇게 얽히는 코미디다.
누드로 영화를 홍보하자는 아이디어는 어떻게 나왔나? 스웨덴 개봉 시에 TV 모닝쇼에 나가서 벗었다. 칸에서도 누드로 칸 비치를 뛰는 홍보작전을 펼쳤다. 사실 국제마킷에는 너무나 많은 영화들이 있고 바이어들은 채 5분도 안되는 동안 영화를 평가한다. 누드 홍보는 우리가 <반지전쟁>이나 니콜 키드먼과 같은 대형스타와 싸울 수 있는 유일한 무기였다. 하지만 스트리킹은 영화의 내용과 연결점이 있어서 그런 거다. 아마 다음 영화 홍보를 위해서는 지붕에서 떨어질런지도 모른다.(웃음) 그런 다음 기억상실증에 걸리고…(폭소)

The Knutsson brothers were a handful of fun to interview. They payed a reasonable price for their film by unzipping their pants in front of the audience, which was great publicity. They naturally became film friendly thanks to their father who is a TV producer. The 5-year-apart brothers also grew up producing advertisements. They collaborated to reveal their now-long-once-short feature film to the world.
The opening title reads ?his is not a film by Ingmar Bergman, it is without Lena Andre? We respect Bergman, but we wanted to make it clear right from the start that this is a totally different film. This is a comedy, not too serious and not too deep. Of course Lena Andre(a Swedish actress who appeared in Bergman s films) could have appeared in it, but no way could Bergman have made it.
Did you want to show the fear of a man right before getting married? Women fear what they get from the marriage life itself, but men fear losing what they have by marrying. Eventually, we wanted to portray a boy growing into a real man by showing the night before the wedding scene 70 times.
I think there are both advantages and disadvantages when it comes to working together. There are only advantages. We don't look the same, but have a lot in common in the inside. There are times when we argue over our differences, but that doesn? last for even 2 minutes. That's because our different paths eventually meet in the end.
Who's idea was it to go naked for the film? When the film was released in Sweden, we appeared on a morning TV show, with no clothes on. We ran along the Canne Beach naked to promote our film. To be frank, there are so many films out in the international market, so buyers evaluate the films in no longer than 5 minutes. We had to do something spectacular. Nudity was our only way to compete with films like , and big time stars like Nicole Kidman. But the streaking we did because it also goes with the film. We might fall off a rooftop for another film.And maybe after that go right on and lose our memory.
