지난 10월12일 폐막한 제8회 PPP(부산프로모션플랜)가 이광모의 <나무 그림 동화>와 태국의 툰스카 판시티보라쿤, 솜풋 친가쏜퐁세 감독의 <실연의 전당>을 상금 2만달러의 부산상 공동수상작으로 결정했다. <파주>의 박찬옥은 코닥상을 수상해 2천만원 상당의 네거티브 필름을 지원받게 되었고, 상금 1천만원을 수여받는 MBC 무비상은 홍기선의 <거울 파편>에 돌아갔다. 또한 상금 1만달러가 수여되는 씨네클릭 아시아상은 아프가니스탄 감독 세디그 바르막의 <아편 전쟁>, 동일한 상금이 수여되는 BFC(부산영상위원회)상은 타지키스탄 감독 잠쉐드 우스모노프의 <천국에 가려면 죽어야 한다>가 수상했다. 첫번째 프로젝트를 출품한 신인감독을 대상으로 하는 NDIF(New Directors in Focus)는 박희성의 <내 곁에 있어줘>와 박은영의 <4차원 소녀>를 각각 바른손상과 LJ상 수상작으로 결정했다.

300개 회사와 1천여명의 게스트가 참가해 500여건의 미팅을 가진 올해 PPP는 인더스트리얼 스크리닝을 본격적으로 도입해 마켓으로서의 기능을 한층 강화시켰다. 강성규 PPP 수석운영위원은 “프리머스 상영관을 확보해 총 38회의 인더스트리얼 스크리닝을 사고없이 성공적으로 마쳤다”고 밝혔다. 예테보리 영화제로부터 아시아 저개발국의 감독을 초청한다는 전제하에 1천5백만원의 펀드를 지원받은 것도 의미있는 성과. 올해 PPP는 내년 창설되는 BFM(부산필름마켓)의 가능성을 가늠하는 장으로서도 중요한 자리였다. PPP시상식과 같은날 열린 BFM 창설 기자회견에 따르면, 30억원의 예산이 소요될 BFM은 내년 PIFF 기간중 BEXCO와 해운대 지역 10개관에서 4일동안 개최될 예정. 김동호 위원장은 비슷한 시기에 열리는 해외 필름마켓과의 차별성을 묻는 질문들에 “베를린은 그들대로 유럽시장의 마켓을 강화하고 있고, AFM(미국필름마켓)은 미국시장을 강화하고 있다. 아시아를 대표하는 필름마켓이 생기는 것도 당연한 일”이라고 전제한 뒤 “BFM이 아시아영화의 세계진출에 중요한 창구가 될 것”이라고 낙관했다.

Awards which were aimed towards the new directors’ first projects, were given to Hee-sung Chung’s <Stay with Me> and Eun-young Park’s <A Girl from 4th Dimension>.

PPP (which held more than 500 meetings this year with 300 companies and about 1000 people attending) introduced industrial screening and has proven its strength as a market. Sung-kyu Kang, the top of the PPP Administration Committee, commented, “Having secured the PRIMUS screens, the 38th Industrial Screening was able to go on without any problems. It was a success.” With the proposition that directors from undeveloped Asian countries are to be invited, PPP was given \15 million by Gothenburg Film Festival. This year’s PPP was an important one in that we were able to discuss the fate of BFM (Busan Film Market), which is to be established next year. According to the BFM Establishment press conference, which was held on the same day as the PPP Award ceremony, BFM will cost \3000 million and will be held during 4days of next year’s PIFF. Dong-ho Kim’s reaction to the questions on the difference compared with the other European International Film Markets was, “Berlin is strengthening their European Market and AFM (American Film Market) is also strengthening their domestic markets. It’s natural for an Asian Film Market to be created too.” “BFM will be an important gateway for the Asian films to go worldwide.”
