제5회 부천영화제의 비기(秘技), 호금전 회고전이 한국에서 촬영된 말년의 작품 <산중전기>의 상영으로 13일 오후 2시 문을 열었다. 300여 명의 관객이 자리를 메운 부천 시청 무대에 오른 김영덕 프로그래머는 개인 사정으로 무대에 서지 못한 주연배우 쉬펑이 보내온 메시지를 전했다. 이 메시지에서 쉬펑은 “20년 전 호금전 감독의 영화를 찍었던 한국의 변화한 모습을 보고 싶었다”며 “호금전 재평가 움직임이 더없이 반갑다. <협녀> 등이 매진된 소식을 듣고 보니 가지 못하는 아쉬움이 더 크다”며 고마움과 아쉬움을 표했다. 이어 관객에게 소개된 호금전의 열성팬 피터 리스트 교수(몬트리올 콩코르디아대)는 먼저 평일 오후에 세 시간이 넘는 영화를 보러 많은 관객이 모인 데에 놀라움을 드러낸 후, “러닝타임 205분 짜리 편집본은 나도 오늘이 처음”이라며 흥분을 감추지 않았다. “‘판타스틱 장르’ 개념에 꼭 들어맞는 호금전 영화이며, 산수화의 미학과 한국의 자연, 60년대 한국영화에 대한 이해를 읽을 수 있다”라는 것이 리스트 교수의 <산중전기> 해설. 호금전 회고전은 14일의 <천하제일> <충렬도>, 15일의 <용문객잔> <협녀>로 이어진다.

A Toast to the God of Wuxia

He commented that is a King Fu film that exactly fits ?he fantastic genre?concept and helps the audience to understand the beauty of an oriental landscape painting, Korea? scenery and Korean movies from the 1960?. King Fu? and will be shown on the 14th, followed by and on the 15th at Boksagol Cultural Centre in Puchon.
