부천이 선택한 첫번째 메가토크 주자는 ‘엽기영화공장’ 트로마 프로덕션의 대표이자, 메가톤급 유머의 소유자 로이드 카우프먼. 14일 2시 복사골 문화센터에서 열린 메가토크 ‘로이드 카우프먼의 유쾌한 영화강의, 나는 <톡식 어벤져>에서 영화제작에 필요한 모든것을 배웠다’에는 김홍준 집행위원장, 송유진 프로그래머 외에 <휴머니스트>의 이무영 감독이 모더레이터로 참석했다. 대걸레를 든 <톡식 어벤져>의 주인공 ‘톡시’는 “감독을 악으로부터 보호하기 위해” 오늘도 포효하며 행사장으로 입장했다. “호러, 엽기, 섹스, 폭력을 한데 섞고, 풍자를 통해 얻어지는 코미디를 추구한다”는 ‘트로마 프로덕션’은 할리우드 영화의 1% 정도의 예산으로 30년 동안 1000편 이상의 독립영화를 만들면서 일종의 브랜드로 성장해, 현재 유럽과 일본 등지에 많은 골수팬을 확보하고 있는 상태. 카우프먼은 “부천영화제는 독립영화사의 오아시스같은 존재”라는 초청에 대한 감사말과 함께 관객의 취향을 일원화하는 할리우드 메이저 영화사들의 독식과 독립영화의 개념을 “미라맥스에서 배급해 선댄스영화제로 가는 것”으로 변질시켜버린 <뉴욕타임즈>에 대해 신랄한 비판을 덧붙였다. 그러나 카우프먼은 분위기가 조금 무거워진다 싶으면 ‘섹스…’, ‘바이올런스(폭력)…’같은 단어를 복화술로 흘려놓고 누가 그런 말을 했냐는 듯 주변을 두리번거리는 장난끼를 선보였다.
